Base Scripture: Galatians 4:12-31 (NKJV)
Instead of trying to follow a bunch of do’s and don’ts, allow the Spirit to transform you from the inside as you pursue and delight in a relationship with the Lord. As a result, your behavior will reflect His power and glory in you. Trying to follow the law is like trying to get the result of the Spirit’s power without the Spirit Himself. We only acquire the Spirit through faith in Christ. If we could be righteous before God by adhering to the law, then Christ would not have needed to die. Adhering to the law is jumping the gun to perfection that you alone don’t have the capacity to achieve nor sustain, that’s why Christ came.
Adhering to law is like jumping into a deep pool of water… and you have no idea how to swim, you don’t have a life jacket, but instead you have an anvil wrapped around your ankles called “flesh.” Go over to the shallow end of the pool, allow the Spirit to teach you how to swim and grow stronger in spite of the anvil. Allow the Spirit to guide you deeper and deeper into the pool or from glory to glory. Eventually you will reach the deepest part of the pool where you will be able to swim freely. All glory will be given to Him because you know on your own you would drown. You know that it’s only by the Spirit’s guidance and training that you could swim in the first place, let alone in deep waters.
